The Witches 2020 Review

The Witches, the film directed by Robert Zemeckis, is set at the end of 1967 and is the story of a young man who, after being orphaned, is forced to move to Demopolis, a country village in Alabama. Here lives his grandmother, a sweet woman with whom the boy has an excellent relationship.

One day the two meet a group of very sophisticated-looking women and discover, thanks to some clues deciphered by their grandmother, that they are actually evil witches. To protect her grandson, the grandmother decides to move away from rural Demopolis and spend a few days by the sea in a nearby seaside resort. But they don't know that the place is the same one chosen by the Supreme Witch to bring together her colleagues from all over the world in a convention. The purpose of the witchcraft conference is to implement a diabolical plan, which the young orphan decides to boycott in order to try to save humanity. Something that in social networks raised a lot of excitement was the appearance of "The Great Witch", which on this occasion was played by the very talented Anne Hathaway because her appearance was totally different from the 1990 version, and although this "Grand Witch" is not as intimidating as the one Anjelica Huston delivered in her version, it does manage to steal her position in terms of charisma and the unique way in which Anne played the character, this being a scary and elegant character but without neglecting a unique touch that sets her apart and stands out from the rest of the witches. The whole cast except Anne Hathaway seems less interested in their role. This adaptation was seemed different from the 1990 version, but it is less creative, it is less entertaining from the previous part and Zemeckis fails to maintain the reputation and popularity of the previous adaptation.
